What is your opinion on the twilight saga?

i'm wondering what other people think of the books %26amp; film.

[i just want to point out that i read the first book, then watched the film, then read the other three books.]

my opinion is that i like the film, it didn't miss much out at all and i don't get why everybody's so obsessed with the blood typing scene, it really didn't have that much of an impact on the rest of the book. i have to say, i didn't like kristen stewart's portrayal of bella. not that she's a bad actress, it's just she was too melodramatic, it was quite painful to watch at times, and that let the film down i thought. robert pattinson as edward was good, although he seemed a bit too arkward at times for edward. yeah the special effects weren't spectacular, but it was a fairly low budget film, so that's understandable, and i did really like the use of the north east pacific scenery, that's probably one of my favourite things about the whole saga. also, taylor lautner as jacob was absaloutely perfect. overall i'd give the film 4 out of 5.

as for the books - the first was brilliant. i found myself addicted and sucked right into the book; bella, i thought, was likeable at first and though stephenie meyer isn't a legendarily [is that a word? lol] good writer i didn't care. there were several big flaws, though i didn't really think about them much until i read the next books.

i won't go into detail about what i thought of new moon and eclipse; just that it was clear from the start that though still just as addictive as twilight and still good, they both failed to quite live up to my high expectations after reading the first book. the plot was a bit all over the place and some bits were boring, but i was still extremely excited about reading breaking dawn.

and what a huge disappointment that turned out to be. it started off, the first few chapters or so, just as good as the rest of the books, but i concluded once i'd finished it [it took me much longer to read than the other books, as i didn't find it addictive and reading it was a bit of a chore to be honest] that it was an utterly pointless book and that meyer clearly wrote it because she was determined to give bella the stereotypical girl's 'happy ending' with a perfect husband and child. she should, imo, have written an epilogue at the end of eclipse, saying bella and edward married, bella became a vampire several weeks later, but could remain friends with jacob because he imprinted on some randomer on the street. renesmee was pointless...she annoyed me and i cringed whenever she called bella or edward mummy or daddy. if meyer simply HAD to write a fourth book, she could at least have killed a bigger character than irina. and whatever happened to sam and emily's wedding? surely that would have been a good, happy finale?

so, going back to the flaws i mentioned; the thing i probably disliked most about the whole series was how unbelievably shallow it was. bella constantly marvells at how beautiful edward is; it is obvious that, as he has no really developed personality, that his looks are the only thing that draws bella to him, and vice versa; bella is completely personalityless, yet she has edward, jacob, mike etc. all in love with her...also, at one point when bella attended the werewolves' bonfire in eclipse, the first thing she notices about kim is that she is not very pretty. considering that the target audience of these books are teenage girls, there is way too much emphasis on looks, think of what kind of example this sets! [btw, i'm a teenage girl...i just notice these things :)]

also, the ending was a bit too happy.

and i don't think anybody should compare these books to harry potter. they're completely different stories.

don't get me wrong, i loved twilight. the beginning of the saga at least. i'm interested in what other people think. do you agree with what i've said, or do you have a completely different opinion and hate me? :]What is your opinion on the twilight saga?
These really aren't vampires. I mean they're emo boys with 'powder puff girl' power. Warning, if you aren't a 12 year old girl (My female students are 15-16 and they never even read the book because they said it was for children) so if you're not a tweener who has read the book and loved it, there is no reason for you to spend money to watch this movie.

Everything that legend has created for the vampire is thrown out the door. What's new? Or changes? vampires glisten in the sun, they have long doe-eyed stares, play baseball and only drink the blood of poor defenseless animals.

Even having said all of this, I wish there had been more atmosphere, a story that was creepy or haunting, instead the lead characters just stare at each other. Neither is particularly attractive, and when I read that a shirtless scene for the male star was pulled because (self admitted by the way) he didn't look good, well that compounded with the pasty make-up and sullen behavior makes this kind of a poor man's Buffy. Oh, and the action (what little there is) is weird, and cheaply done, in fact all the F/X are lame.

Oh, and the 'bad' vampires come in and then promptly disappear without becoming a part of the story... like the attempt at the werewolf thing.

I am sure the girly girls that read the book will be happy and that's a good thing, but the rest of us can go see Bolt and get a chuckle or too or rent a real vampire movie. What is your opinion on the twilight saga?
read the first book, don't get what so amazing about it. saw the movie and shocker it was even worse than the book! the acting was terrible, even the main vampire couldn't choose if he was american or english!
Loved the books, hated Bella as a character, and absolutely hated the movie version :)
i like it
jacob's hot
I think you summed it up absolutely perfectly. Twilight books are addicting and interesting and I really like them, but the hype is ridiculous. It advocates abusive relationships.Edward is basically a stalker and extremely controlling. Bella is weak and pathetic. Breaking Dawn was a huge disappointment because it dragged on forever, and I don't like Renessme. I mean, she's not even married for like two seconds and now there's a baby? Before she even gets to be a vampire? Lame.

Anyway, sorry that was a little rant. I loved Twilight in the beginning before the hype and before the movie. And it doesn't even compare to Harry Potter.
I attempted to read the first book and it was just awful. It's full of cliche writing, unlikable characters, and a horrible story. Even Stephanie Meyer says she's not a good writer. I

I agree with StarGirl, the movie was even horrible.
(You may not want to read this if you havent finished the Twilight Saga)

The Twilight Saga are currently my favorite books and that means a lot because I read a lot...at least a book a week. The movie was really good but I liked the books a lot better...when I was reading the book my portrayal of Edward in my head was much hotter than Robert Pattinson. Im not dissing him though because he plays the part well. I became addicted to the books I read them constantly...even skipped out on a lot of social stuff. The book had so many surprises and suspenseful things that wanted you to keep reading. For example, I didnt even think Bella could get pregnant by Edward until it happened. I honestly thought she was gonna die giving birth but as we all knew...that didnt matter because Edward would bring her back. In the books I also loved Jacob. He became her second Edward when Edward left her. I still don't think that he should have left her if he cared about her so much he should have took her with him. At the end of Breaking Dawn I thought the idea of imprinting (falling in love with someone instantly) was really weird. I didnt like Jacob after he imprinted on Rosesme...that was gross cause she was a baby when he imprinted on her. Why did Meyers even think about something like that? Yes, I agree there is a huge emphasis on looks. Everyone in the movie was so super hott...that was taking everything to the extreme. How could you not be mesmorized by Edward though? I think these books are much better than Harry Potter.
